Introduction
Cricket has been played at the School since 1840. Since then, it has been an important means of connection for Old Suttonians and the School. The Upper, the home of OS Cricket, offers hospitality second to none and is often regarded as one of the most picturesque settings to play the game in the county. Through the excellent facilities and the camaraderie the game offers, we are delighted that the sport continues to offer such attraction to Old Suttonian players. With a range of fixtures during the summer months, please get involved and continue the rich history of OS Cricket.
A History of OS Cricket
Cricket remains the longest-standing of all Old Suttonian sports, with the OS versus School match dating as far back as the early 1870s. Traditionally hosted on Upper during May or June, the fixture now sees the two teams compete for the Bunker Cup, awarded in honour of the late David Bunker (1954 M). At the turn of the Twentieth Century, early OS teams began to increase their fixture list by regularly arranging tours to face alumni teams in other counties. That was very much the precursor to the ever-popular OS Cricket Week, which has been in existence since 1923. Played annually ever since (excluding the war years) the week allows Old Suttonians to play fixtures against a number of local teams and alumni associations.
2021 OS Cricket Season
This year's OS Cricket season starts on Sunday 11th July with a 40-over game against The Lynxes (Old Cranbrookians). Then, on Sunday 8th August, the team takes on The Dragons and then finally, on Sunday 15th August they take on the King's Rochester Old Roffensians. All three fixtures start at 11.30am on Upper. To get involved, please contact any of the OS Cricket Admins listed at the bottom of the page, or register your interest through the OS Cricket Facebook Group.
Having not played OS Cricket since 2019, we hope to have some fantastic matches this summer. As ever, we would be delighted to see as many of the OS and School community there as possible to support the team.
