News stories from the School and Old Suttonian communities

This event dates back to the mid-1990s, when Michael Soloman (1945 W) and Michael Hovey (1946 W) arranged to meet a few friends who had been with them in Westminster in the 1940s. When it started, the venue changed year-by-year, with a different Old Suttonian arranging the luncheon at a restaurant of their choice each year. The only prerequisite was that it should be held on the first Tuesday in March. The tradition has continued until this day with the organisational baton passing to Ian Kay (1941 M). Rather than changing venue each year, he has arranged a 1940s reunion at the Carvery restaurant at the Strand Palace Hotel since 2006.
Over time, the attending numbers started to dwindle due to deaths, ill-health and inability to travel. As a result, in 2018, the decision was taken to extend the invitation to Old Suttonians who had left the School in the 1950s. Due to the resultant popularity of the rejuventated event, this year, the 'Venerables' Reunion lunch was hosted at the Royal Air Force Club, Piccadilly, in their Battle of Britain suite. We were delighted to see nearly 30 Old Suttonian attend this year's event with leavers ranging from 1941 through to 1959. The next 'Venerables' Reunion Lunch will take place on 3rd March 2020.
