We are very pleased to report that some of our Old Suttonians were very busy last Sunday running the London Marathon for some incredible causes.
This year was Katie Horton’s (1995 V) seventh London Marathon in a row in aid of Multiple Sclerosis Trust, a charity that believes nobody should have to manage MS alone. They support the 130,000 people living with MS in the UK, from the moment of diagnosis and throughout their journey, making sure a life with MS isn’t a life defined by MS. This charity is close to Katie’s heart as she suffers from MS and is “keen to be able to support others that are diagnosed with a condition to show that is doesn’t have to stop you doing things, but can push you further to achieve things you never thought possible”. Katie has raised the incredible sum of £82,000 over the last seven years and hope to achieve £100,000 at some point in the future. Katie’s energies know no bounds as she also reached Everest Base Camp in March this year. If you would like to help her reach her goal, please visit her JustGiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/katie-horton11?.
Sarah Geering (SVPS Staff 2014-2019, Parent 2012-2020) completed the Marathon in eight hours, 21 minutes in aid of the Pilgrims Hospice, which is east Kent’s largest hospice charity and helps people facing incurable illness to live well in every moment. Sarah said the Marathon was “the most amazing experience because the support was incredible” and that she was inspired to take part by Sarah Smith (SVPS Staff 2000-2020, Parent 2003-2013) who also regularly runs marathons. If you would like to support Sarah’s charity, please visit her JustGiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sarah-geering2.
Simon West (1996 W), pictured, ran the Marathon in three hours, 28 minutes to raise awareness and funds to help the Yellow Submarine support more members and their families. Yellow Submarine believes that children and adults with learning disabilities deserve to live life to the full, providing opportunities and activities to make their vision a reality for its members. Simon trained for the 26.2 miles, with members supporting him by taking on their own challenges, such as walking 2.6 miles, doing 26 star jumps or walking upstairs 26 times. Simon is very grateful to everyone for their support, including some Old Suttonians who have already sponsored him. If you would like to join them in supporting Simon, please visit his JustGiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/ysublondon.
Congratulation to Katie, Sarah, Simon and countless others from the SVS community who either ran the London Marathon, or supported in some way.
