Those at the School in the early 2000s will remember our former Sports Centre Manager and Cricket coach, Alan ‘Iggy’ Igglesden. A former English Test cricketer, Iggy was a hugely popular member of staff for the eight years he was at the School. Prior to joining SVS, he suffered a seizure in 1999 and, after a routine MRI scan, doctors discovered a non-malignant but inoperable brain tumour. Sadly, in recent years, he has experienced two severe strokes, which have affected his ability to communicate and is now receiving end-of-life care.
This promotional video has been produced by the Professional Cricketers’ Trust, a charity helping him to overcome the day-to-day challenges he faces. Alongside Iggy in the video is his wife Liz, herself a former member of SVS staff, teaching English and Drama. The video has been released to promote his efforts to join hundreds of Professional Cricketers' Association members in running, walking, swimming or cycling 5km to raise valuable funds for the Trust. The simple fact that he is able to take on this challenge is testament to his determination and bravery.
Iggy’s infectious smile will be memorable to many who knew him whilst he was here and, on behalf of everyone at SVS, we wish him and Liz all the best as he undertakes this considerable challenge.
