After a break last year, the traditional Old Suttonian versus School Hockey matches were resurrected this year as a series of indoor games. Some 60 Old Suttonians, players and spectators, returned to School to play against boys and girls senior hockey teams, captained by Jamie Drew and Georgie Ridge.
Despite not having played much indoor hockey this year, the boys gave a good account of themselves in their three matches, moving the ball quickly and making good use of the side boards. However, the Old Suttonians proved too strong, winning all but one game, including the Alex Hatch trophy, played in his memory between the second teams.
The girls matches marked the 30th anniversary of their playing hockey at the School. Hard fought and exciting to watch, a small, but experienced Old Suttonian squad, which included three of the four Baxter sisters, triumphed in their games too. Their prize was The Townsend Trophy, awarded to the winning side in the match between the first teams.
After the matches, players, Old Suttonians and supporting parents all retired to The Queen's Head for lunch, where much light-hearted and friendly discussion was had. It was great to welcome so many familiar faces back to School.
